Took my 6 and 4 old children for the first time. Went when it wasn't busy which I think makes a difference in your experience. Some of the items/exhibits were scary but it is all in how you handle it as a parent. You pick how interactive you want to be. We also did the mirror maze, my personal favorite. Scared my 4 yr old a little. My 6 yr old did the laser beams and love it. My 4 yr old still talks about the shrunken head. This is a good place to go to if you need a break from the heat. The AC felt great!
This museum is absolutely awesome. My 6 yr old didn't like it but she thought it was scary and it wasn't. I learned new things in here. Definitely plan to go back!
We took our 2 boys, age 6 and 4. Way too much more and scary stuff for them. My 4 year old cried and wanted to leave. I've been to these in other cities, before kids, and must not have remembered how gory it is? Pics of people beheaded, impaled, knives from executions, etc. I expected the shrunken heads. But it was room after room of death and medieval torture devices. I wish I had been warned about it not being appropriate for children. I expected tallest man, hot dog wafting contest pics and stuff like that. They had a model of the tallest man but lots of dark-themed stuff. Great if you're unto that and not 4 years old.
Always a neat place to take kids, and to explore on your own no matter what your age is. Thanks to the giant shake that pierced the outside of the building, it's very easy to spot and in close proximity to the inlet parking lot should you choose to drive rather then walk. Plenty to see and always up to date, there's no lack of entertainment in this museum. It's a staple of OC and will continue to be there for generations to come!
First time I was ever here this year and I thought it was neat. Perfect for a rainy day on the beach. Buy online before going and it is cheaper!
