We love Castle in the Sand! We have been going to Ocean City for the last 11 years, and have stayed at different places and Castle in the Sand is the best. We like to stay in the cottages, so there's a little more room and privacy. These are great places to stay. All of the staff, from the front desk, bartenders, and security, have always been friendly and courteous. Castle in the Sand may be a little pricer than some other places, but you definitely get more with them! And, keep an eye on their 'hot deals' to get discounts on your stay. Can't wait to come back next year!
Booked two days before going. Was nervous getting one of the last two rooms still available, given other reviews. It was just what we were looking for with me, my wife and 3 kids with us.. The kitchen, mic, fridge, stove, pots pans and table settings were all clean and ample. 4G cell service was good. The staff here was the most friendly and helpful of any hotel staff anywhere I've stayed in the last 25 years. I gave the maid a good tip for going above and beyond, in seeing to our comfort and needs beyond just cleaning. Sure, it wasn't built in the last 5 years, but neither was my house. The location is excellent. The Olympic size pool with diving board is a nice plus. The grocery store, frozen yogurt, mini golf, crab house and surf shops are in walking distance and the $3 per day bus pass gets you to the board walk quickly. Parking is available, but once we got there, we never moved the van again. Best of all, you walk out of the hotel and onto the beach. So you can swim any time or go out for a midnight stroll. We WILL be back.
So I have just checked into the hotel. Because there was only 1 person checking guests in it took 15-20 minutes and there was only 1 person ahead of me. I finally get to check in and I was not treated as nicely as the people before me, go figure. When I got to the room it was to say the least.... gross. Windows were filthy, hand towel had a yellow-brown stain, and the air conditioner was absolutely corroded. As soon as I walked in the hotel I had ZERO reception. No room service either so I had to have something delivered. Because my phone was not working I picked up the room phone and I thought the bad surprises were over. The phone was so greasy and dirty I literally gagged. I genuinely wish I could switch hotels, but I'm here for work and have no choice.
The bar/restaurant has a great atmosphere. The room service, maintenance, and bartenders were honestly amazing and they are the only reason I would debate coming back here. Unfortunately the front desk is lacking in hospitality and prioritizing. Our toilet wouldn't flush for 3 days and I was forced to use the restaurant bathroom at certain times. After day 3 I had to firmly let them know that they were lacking concern. Finally they decided to come up and change the whole toilet and confirmed I wasn't crazy. Besides the front desk, this place would have gotten 5 stars. Unfortunately bad links weaken chains. Kudos to those bartenders though!
Right on the beach and the crush bar is awesome! Reasonable rates, good food, clean room. Loved the beach-side bar/restaurant, live music, volleyball area, kids play area and pool.
